What is an APS certificate?
Known as Akademische Prüfstelle (in German), the APS certificate is essential for individuals looking to advance their education or career in Germany. This certificate is obtained by submitting your documents as you would for your visa application process.
An APS certification can also be seen as an eligibility test which tells you whether you’re qualified (in terms of language requirements) to apply to a German university. Once all your documents are verified, the Academic Evaluation Centre (India) will issue a certificate in your name. This certificate will then be used to take the visa process forward.
Please note that APS India is only responsible to issue the certificate. It does not have the authority to issue a visa.
Who needs this certificate?
An APS certificate is now mandatory for everyone who wishes to pursue a long-term course (bachelor’s or master’s degree) in Germany.
However, students who have got a scholarship from the government or those who want to go for a summer course or a short-term course (less than 90 days) don’t need to get the APS certificate.
Things you should know before applying for the APS certificate
- It is always better to apply for the certificate first and the university later. So that the process can be fast-tracked and no time is wasted
- Keep all the documents handy (refer to the checklist on official website for the list of documents)
- You will have to pay a fee ( ₹18000) to get your APS certificate
- Don’t forget to save a copy of the payment receipt, as you might need it in future
- Keep your TestAS score handy (Only when you are applying for a bachelor degree)
- Keep your language details ready:
For German: Goethe/TestDAF/DSD/Telc score
For English: IELTS/TOEFL score
How to apply for the APS certificate 2023?
- Visit this page at https://aps-india.de/aps-process/
- Enter a username and password to sign up for the portal.
- Enter your personal information
- Provide your educational background, including the schools and universities you have attended.
- Type the result of your TestAS (if applicable)
- Have your language information prepared:
Scores for Goethe, TestDAF, DSD, and Telc
a TOEFL or IELTS score for English - Select your preferred mode of payment.
When you select the CC avenue method, you must make an online payment. If you have already transferred funds to the German Embassy’s official bank account, choose the offline option and provide the relevant information about your transaction.
After completing the aforementioned steps, you must wait a few hours for your account to be activated. Account activation is done manually. Once the account is activated, you can log in, download the application acknowledgement, and send it, along with all of your supporting documentation, to the address listed below.

1. Do I need an APS certificate for the winter semester application?
It depends on the university you are applying to. Some universities require the APS certificate for the winter semester while others do not.
2. Can I apply for APS without a bachelor’s degree?
Yes, it is possible to apply without a bachelor’s degree. Either you can attach your provisional degree or if you are studying in the 7th semester, you may apply with the transcript.
3. Do I need to courier the documents after applying for the APS?
Yes, you will have to take coloured printouts of every document along with your application form and send them to the following address:

4. What is the difference between CC Avenue & Offline Payment while applying for the APS?
If you wish to pay the fees online then you can select the option of CC Avenue.
If you have already transferred the money (fee amount) to the official bank account of the German embassy, you may go for the offline method & fill in your transaction details there.
How much time does it take for the verification process?
It will take a minimum of 3 to 4 months after you have completed the registration process.
